Gameplay
There's nothing negative to say about the gameplay itself. The controls feel familiar and work well. It took some getting used to the button layout on the Wii U compared to the PS3 and Xbox, but you adapt quickly. Compared to previous Call of Duty games, there is more variety, but also a lot of the same, making the game feel less innovative. You can now play with a dog, which is fun, but not utilized enough. There's also the option to operate a tank, which adds a challenging aspect. Despite attempts to introduce more variety, the game doesn't feel entirely fresh, which is something I personally miss.
Graphics
I can't be positive about the graphics as they lag behind compared to its competitors. They claim to have used a new engine for Ghosts, but it seems to apply only to the PS4 and Xbox One, as there's virtually no difference on the Xbox 360 and Wii U, visually speaking. There might be a slight improvement if you look closely, but it doesn't appear graphically innovative. The characters sync well with their dialogue, in terms of mouth movements, but the overall character design is lacking. The best visual aspect of the game is probably the weapon detailing. The soundtrack of Ghosts is quite unique, which was unexpected. It's notably calm, especially for a Call of Duty game.
Multiplayer
There's nothing negative to say about the multiplayer, where the strength of Call of Duty shines through. Even on the Wii U, the online gameplay is excellent. There are plenty of different modes to choose from. You can opt for hardcore or normal gameplay. As always, there are many customization options for your characters and weapon settings. There are enough challenges for extra scoring during online play. The respawn system is smooth, and there are plenty of diverse maps. In short, the online component is well executed.
Extinction
One of the innovations in Ghosts is the Extinction mode, where you hunt aliens. It bears some resemblance to the Zombies mode in Black Ops, but with a different twist. Working together and purchasing weapons are still essential, but you're not confined to a specific area; instead, you must clear areas and progress. It's a fun addition that keeps you engaged.
Conclusion
Call of Duty: Ghosts is enjoyable for its online component, but the single player mode falls short. It's better than Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3, and Black Ops 2 to some extent, but still doesn't match up to Modern Warfare 2 and World at War. The 5-hour single player campaign feels too brief, but the multiplayer makes up for it. Extinction is a fun addition that provides extra entertainment.
Pros and Cons:
+ Familiar controls.
+ Unique soundtrack.
+ Extinction mode offers something different.
+ Multiplayer remains strong.
- Single player mode is too short.
- Story lacks depth and fails to engage.
- Graphics are still not groundbreaking.
- Wii U runs at 16 frames, really?
